Shinden Fudo Ryu Menkyo Kaiden

Duncan Stewart is the head instructor (Dojo-cho) of the Bujinkan Tasmania Toku Bu Ryu Sui Dojo. He began martial arts training in the early 1980s and has been training in Bujinkan kobudo for more than three decades.

Duncan lived in Japan for ten years and studied Bujinkan Dojo Budo Taijutsu under Grandmaster Masaaki Hatsumi and Shihan Toshiro Nagato, Yukio Noguchi, and Kenichi Someya. He served as demonstration partner (uke) for Hatsumi and the Japanese Shihan in classes, at international seminars, and in television and video productions. He also participated in public demonstrations in Japan.

Duncan received the Golden Dragon Award, the Enbu Excellence Award, the Bufu Ikkan Shin Gi Tai Award, and Yushuu Shihan certification from Hatsumi at the Honbu Dojo. He is a licensed senior Shidoshi-Kai instructor and the highest-ranked Bujinkan practitioner in Tasmania. He also studied Nihon Buyo (traditional Japanese dance), Kenbiki (martial arts healing therapy), and Taiko drumming. In Kashiwa City, he taught English and martial arts at his own dojo at the Suwa Shinto Shrine. Duncan also has Menkyo Kaiden in Shinden Fudo Ryu awarded from Nagato Sensei.

Duncan returned to Tasmania to teach classical Japanese martial arts, including ninjutsu. His instruction addresses the unification of spirit, technique, and body (Shin Gi Tai Ichi). In 2013, Hatsumi Soke advised him to teach Sanshin and Kihon Happo and to include demanding training when necessary. Duncan has taught internationally, including in the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, and France.
