2019 Kotohajime | "Cleaning & Cutting" Day

January 6, 2019 | Dayton Bujinkan Dojo

The Dayton Bujinkan Dojo invites all current members to our 2019 Kotohajime on Sunday January 6, 2019. Please help us prepare and celebrate "the beginning of things".

We'll start the day with a team effort, as we work together to thoroughly clean the dojo in preparation for an exciting 2019 (and to get ready for the upcoming Dan Klug seminar). Then we'll shift gears and move on to a training challenge to kick off the new year, where Instructor Jess Attilli will lead us through 1000 cuts. Then we'll celebrate the accomplishments of the day with a party and free catered meal.

The tentative Kotohajime schedule is:

  • 10:30am-12:00pm: Group Effort Dojo Cleaning (daken room, yoga room, training mats, weapons storage, men's & women's locker rooms)
  • 12:00pm-2:00pm: 1000 cuts with Jess Attilli
  • 2:00pm-3:00pm: Party and free food
  • 3:00pm-4:00: Final cleaning of the kitchen, bar, and sitting area

The 2019 Kotohajime is a free event reserved for active students (those with current memberships) of the Dayton Bujinkan Dojo. For questions please speak to an instructor at the Dojo.

January 12, 2019 | Dayton Bujinkan Dojo

The Dayton Bujinkan Dojo is holding its annual Mini Dai Komyo Sai Seminar and Celebration on Saturday January 12, 2019!

What is a Mini Dai Komyo Sai? For decades, Hatsumi Sensei (Bujinkan Soke) in Japan held yearly events to celebrate his birthday and another year of training in December each year. The Dayton Bujinkan Dojo has held "mini" Dai Komyo Sai seminars since 1997. All students, friends and guests are invited to participate in the daytime training and evening potluck dinner festivities. All activities are held at the Dayton Bujinkan Dojo. (The seminar is held in January instead of December to stay clear of holiday conflicts.)

Dan Klug (Bujinkan Judan, boxer and BJJ brown belt) is the guest instructor for the Mini Dai Komyo Sai Seminar training. Dan has been teaching yearly seminars at the Dayton Bujinkan Dojo since 1997, and has been a mentor to many of the instructors since 1991. Dan has been training in the Bujinkan since the early 1980s, has visited Japan more than a dozen times for training, and holds regular classes weekly in Washington State. An original student of Kurt Rittenhouse Martial Arts in Kettering, Ohio, Dan has trained in the Bujinkan Arts under Hatsumi Soke, Nagato Shihan, and Noguchi Shihan, and in the past with Manaka Sensei and Muramatsu Sensei.
